Have you ever wondered what people would be like if they lived in a utopian society that had no feelings, and you wee never with your real family? Recently I read a book for school called the Giver by Lois Lowry. There has been a movie about this great book but the book is better.
The book is about a twelve year old boy, Jonas, who's job or assignment is to be the Reciever. The Reciever is the person who holds all the memories of how life was like before this robotic community. Throughout the story Jonas struggles that only he can feel, see color, and hear music. To escape and allow others in the society to be able to do what he can he decides to run away allowing the community to access memories. Along the way he takes a child which his family is not allowed to keep, seeing as every family unit has a boy and a girl.
This book bought me so many emotions that it brought a sense of how the world could be in the future and it was very scary. Where you can't experience what love is or true emotions. Where in reality you aren't even with your really birthmother and your true family. I was addicted to this book to the very end. I was upset that it ended, but the author made it a series. I would check out this book if you are mature enough to read it because it isn't for 5th graders. This book really makes you think about where birth happens. Definitely an 11/10.
