The Giver

Have you ever wondered what people would be like if they lived in a utopian society that had no feelings, and you wee never with your real family? Recently I read a book for school called the Giver by Lois Lowry. There has been a movie about this great book but the book is better.

The book is about a twelve year old boy, Jonas, who's job or assignment is to be the Reciever. The Reciever is the person who holds all the memories of how life was like before this robotic community. Throughout the story Jonas struggles that only he can feel, see color, and hear music. To escape and allow others in the society to be able to do what he can he decides to run away allowing the community to access memories. Along the way he takes a child which his family is not allowed to keep, seeing as every family unit has a boy and a girl.

This book bought me so many emotions that it brought a sense of how the world could be in the future and it was very scary. Where you can't experience what love is or true emotions. Where in reality you aren't even with your really birthmother and your true family. I was addicted to this book to the very end. I was upset that it ended, but the author made it a series. I would check out this book if you are mature enough to read it because it isn't for 5th graders. This book really makes you think about where birth happens. Definitely an 11/10.

Book Review

Indian Captive is a book based on the Native Americans and the settlers. A "white girl" gets captured by the Indians and learns to live their lifestyle. In the end, she or Molly has an opportunity to leave.

In my opinion this book had a reoccurring theme of you will never know until you try it. Thought out the story, Molly starts refusing instead of accepting it. She then learns that she has to so she can survive. Molly learns in the end that they are humans just like her and although they have different ways then her she should respect it. People have different perspectives but in the end we are the same some way. Molly ends up having the courage to try something while other like "her" aren't. In the end I wouldn't recommend it to everybody. It would be best for people who like more historical things. The book was very fascinating and you do find out stuff you never end up knowing.

Books

I know that I am supposed to keep the subject to book reviews and Once Upon a Time, but I went to Barnes n Nobles recently and I got some of the coolest books ever!
The first book I got is Magus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: The Sword of the Summer. This book is related to the Percy Jackson books. It also includes some of my favorite characters for example Annabeth Chase.
The second book I got was Once Upon a Time: Red's Untold Story. This book goes me into depth than the story in the show. We also get to know her love life more in depth.
The last book is Since You've Been Gone. I have been wanting this book ever since last summer and I never forgot about it. The story is about a friend who got out of their shell. During the summer her best friend disappears and leaves a list.
Tell me any books you got or read bye guys!

What Characters are Who? Part 2

In my last post, I talked about Mary and David. In this post I will talk about Rumple.

Rumple is one of the characters who change the most in the show. He first ends up looking like this in the first episodes. In the town he is called Mr. Gold. As he is still the dark one he knows everything and already knows this is a curse. Although Regina and him are on good terms, he tries to break the curse to find his beloved. In Storybooke, he realizes that even though he had the intension of trying to protect his son, he got consumed in the darkness.

In the second picture, this is how he portrays i the enchanted forest. They are totally different but if you look closely the hand are positioned in the same way, but not the same order(how the hands were placed). In the enchanted forest he has power and makes a bunch of deals that people regret later. He also has a son which hates him for abusing his power.

Music

I know this is way of topic but I have to say it.
I am in love with two bands. The bands I love so much are Fall Out Boy and Echosmith. Now Fall Out Boy is an alternative rock band. When you hear the terms rock band you usually think about songs that are loud. The band is made up of 4 boys. This band has created 19 albums. My two favorite albums are Take This Too Your Grave, and Save Rock and Roll. The songs that I can't get out of my mind is Phoenix and Dance Dance.

Echosmith is a total different story. Echosmith is not a very popular band, but they are getting there. I see Echosmith as an indie pop band more than rock music. Echo smith is made up of 4 siblings. There is one girl and 3 boys. So far they have made 3 albums, Talking Dreams, Acoustic Dreams, and Summer Sampler. My two favorite songs from the whole band is Bright and Let's Love.

Although this isn't my regular posts, I couldn't stop thinking about these particular bands. I do promise that my next blog will be on part 2 of What Characters Are Who. So what's your favorite band/artist?

What Characters Are Who

In OUAT it may be confusing as to who(real world) is who(enchanted forest). There are certain hints that can help you determine the identity of the people. For example, David Nolan is Prince Charming.     David is in a hospital bed in the beginning of the story, but he awakes when Mary(Snow) reads to him. They end up having a connection. In the enchanted forest, Snow mets Charming by robbing from him. Young love is adorable right? He ends up finding her and capturing her. They end up in a journey to find a missing ring that was his mother's. In the real world in season 1, you can see a shot of Mary Margaret fiddling with the same ring. Emma has had a trouble pasted, with robbing but she did find some love on the way. She ends ups finding Neal (Bealfire) who is Rumple's son. Regina the evil queen used to have a love in her life as well. Regina was a kind-hearted girl who's mother used magic on her a lot. She used to love a stable boy named Daniel who Cora (her mother) killed because Snow White told her mom. Snow White saw Regina kiss the boy after he asks for her hand in marriage. This allows us to see some of the hints to determine who represents who.

The rest of the people and their background will be in a later post. Thank you guys for waiting and hope you have enjoyed my blog so far!

Ninth Ward

Lanesha lives in a knit community in New Orleans's Ninth Ward. She doesn't live in a fancy house like her uptown family or like other kids in her neighborhood. Lanesha lives with her grandma, Mama Ya-Ya. Mama Ya-Ya is her caretaker who is wise and able to predict the future. Mama Ya-Ya has a vision that shows a powerful hurricane, Katrina coming fast. It is up to Lanesha to call upon hope, bravery, and strength Mama Ya-Ya has given her to help them survive the storm.

Lanesha has lived with her grandma since she was born. Her mother died giving birth. Lanesha and Mama Ya-Ya both have the power to see ghosts. Her mother always sits on Mama Ya-Ya's bed still pregant. Mama Ya-Ya has helped giving birth to other kids until one baby died, one was born with a caul, and one who grew twelve fingers scared everyone and started calling her a witch. Lanesha loves learning and reading. Throughout the story, she makes new friends, Ginia and TaShon. TaShon is a child who was born with twelve fingers but got the extra ones caught off. Lanesha ends up defending him, when she finds him in trouble in an alley with a dog. She scares away the boys and together they take care of the dog. Ginia is a runner just like Lanesha, they both run track. Ginia tries to become friends with her, but Lanesha only thinks it is for pity. They end up hanging out until the storm hits.

Every since Mama Ya-Ya saw her vision she has become weaker and weaker. She never lives the tv and stays put. She believes that something is different from the other storms. Lanesha ends up having to prepare of the storm. During the storm Lanesha tries to keep Mama Ya-Ya awake but she ends up dying during the hurricane. TaShon and Lanesha end up having to leave the house because of the flood. In the end they survive and get rescued.

This story would be a 10 out of 10. I had so many emotions for this story. I would count it as one of my favorites. It talked about many different topics. It involves bullying, love, and survival. She only had one person in her life to guide her. If I had to choose from her grandma or her Uptown family I would choose the grandma. She never discouraged her and allowed her to express herself. She found who she truly is though an American tragedy. She was different, but a very good different that you don't see often. She also had hope in her heart that allowed her to survive during the storm.

Season 1

SPOILERS FOR SEASON 1 AND 2 OF ONCE UPON A TIME!! DO NOT READ FUTHER IF YOU DON'T WANNA KNOW!!

Today will officially be the second episode of Season 5 on Once Upon a Time. It starts at 9 pm. Season 1 and 2 brought out a sense of what the characters are like and their personality. We still didn't find their whole back story though.
Season 1 is where Emma comes to Storybrooke. It's also where we see the hatred from Regina Mills aka the Evil Queen. In season 1, Henry tries to get Emma Swan to believe about the curse. Since Henry believes that Emma is the savior, he tries to bring her back. In season 1 we also see who fairy tale characters are who in the real world. We also see the back stories of some characters. While Emma only came to drop off Henry, she ended up staying after Regina's failed attempts at making her leave. Regina also informs us about Emma's criminal record. Mary Marygaret ends up going to jail after being accused of murder of Kathryn Nolan who is David's wife. In the end of the season Regina gives Emma an apple turnover. Henry warns her about it when she tries to say goodbye to him. He ends up falling asleep and Emma and Regina have to save Henry before it is too late.
After Emma gives a good beat down to Regina, they both go to Mr. Gold to find the potion of true love. Emma ends up having to go under the library to slay the dragon who we find out is Maleficent. On the way back to the library, the elevator stops working and she throws the potion to Gold (Rumpelstiltskin) but ends up fleeing, and she gets tricked. They get a call to the hospital and find out Henry didn't make it. Emma ends up kissing Henry on the forehead and he wakes up. The curse ends up broken. In the end we find out that Gold brought magic back into the town.

The next post will include who each fairy character portrays and some of their background. I might also include a book review.

The Kite Runner

url.jpg

The Kite Runner is about a boy called Amir, who is the protagonist. He tells us about his life story twenty years ago in Afghanistan. He had two servants Ali, and his son HassaOne winter there was this Kite tournament and Amir's father, Baba told him he would haOne winter there was this Kite tournament and Amir's father, Baba told him he would have a good chance of winning. Hassan tries to fetch the kite which has a great honor but ends up getting raped by some boys. Amir knows but he frames Hassan because the guilt is eating him up. The King of Afghanistan is over thrown and the Taliban take over. Baba and Amir leave and flee to California where they start their new lives.  During their new lives Amir mets a girl named Soraya who he falls in loves with and ends up marring her. Rahim an old friend visits. Amir ends up knowing that Hassan and his wife got killed by the Taliban and had a child Sorhab who is an orphan. Amir goes to get Sorhab, and ends up meeting Assef, one of the kids who raped Hassan and beats up Amir. Sorhab and Amir end up escaping. Amir and Soraya end up adopting Sorhab.

This story intrigued me to the very end. I though it had a wonderful display of karma because in the end Amir was mean and he got beat up. Amir does end up trying to redeem himself. The story put reality into the world because a lot of bad stuff happen in this world and you have to be careful. I would recommend this book to people who are mature. I had intense emotions when I read this book. I felt that Amir deserved to get beat up but I also felt bad because he fell into the temptation. Some news is that Once Upon a Time season 5 is today. This is probably gonna be the best season for the show .It was my birthday this week and I had this awesome cake. I would also like to say that in season 3 of Once Upon a Time peter pan (Robbie Kay) is in an all new show called Heroes Reborn. I have yet to check it out.

OUAT

OUAT (Once Upon A Time) is a hit television series on ABC network. It is based on fairytale characters with a twist. They are stuck in a town called Storybrook because of the evil queen or in this town Regina. None of the fairytale characters remember who they truly are and are stuck in time. Emma Swan is in the mordern world until her son Henry showed up a decade later. He then takes her to Storybrooke saying she is the only one who can break the curse. She decides to stay in the town and finds out the truth about it all.
Upcoming in the series is season 5 we learn that we have a new dark one. Also in season 5 there have been rumors that Ruby (red riding hood), Aurora, and Merida is coming onto the show. You can watch the series on Netflix but unfortunately they only have season 1, 2, and 3. The series premier will be on September 27, where we have the darkest swan of them all.
